As a child, I feared going to the dentist. As I grew up, I realized I could not let that fear prevent me from taking care of my smile and becoming the best person I can be.
The satisfaction of taking care of my own smile encouraged me to become an orthodontist. I know the role a healthy and beautiful smile plays in one’s life and believe no one should let fear, time constraints, or financial concerns stop them from achieving their smile dreams.
Orthodontics is a very unique field. Each patient is different: I cannot just treat their oral cavity and teeth, but must care for the whole person. I must get to know my patient as well as possible before putting together their treatment plan. The person’s social life, age, motivation, dental care awareness, commitment to treatment, and overall health are just a few of the factors I must understand before designing their orthodontic care approach.
This process is a challenge, which keeps me engaged and excited, and also an opportunity to connect with the person and build a relationship. I treasure both. — Dr. Alon Ofir
